Abstract

Abstract: This thesis analyzes the ruling Tavares Pereira et al. vs. Brazil, issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, linking it to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. The research seeks to understand how international rulings can contribute to strengthening the rule of law, access to justice, and the consolidation of transparent and accountable institutions. Using a methodology of legal-doctrinal and comparative analysis, the background to the case, the court's arguments, and the legal norms applied are analyzed, identifying the rights violated and the measures adopted to remedy them. A relationship is also established between the content of the ruling and the targets of SDG 16, highlighting the need to promote peaceful, inclusive societies with strong institutions. Finally, the paper reflects on the applicability of these standards to the Ecuadorian framework, proposing recommendations aimed at strengthening public policies and institutional practices that guarantee justice, social trust, and respect for human rights.
