Abstract

Abstract: The topic of this research is "Academic preferences of Law students and their connection with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)", with emphasis on SDG 16, which promotes justice, peace and institutional strengthening. The general objective is to identify the factors that influence students' preferences towards specific areas of legal science, such as Criminal Law, and their impact on their future specialization. Sentence No. 398-16-SEP-CC, issued by the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, was analyzed, which resolved an extraordinary protection action in a criminal case. This ruling highlighted the violation of the right to due process, in particular the lack of judicial motivation, and ordered that said omission be corrected to guarantee access to justice, aligning with the principles of SDG 16. The study shows that the analysis of judicial cases in Academic training not only fosters technical skills in Criminal Law, but also promotes a critical vision committed to social justice and sustainability, strengthening inclusive and responsible institutions.
