Abstract

Abstract: The Guaguayme Bajo neighborhood, located in the Guadalupe parish, Zamora Chinchipe province, faces sanitation problems due to the malfunctioning of the current sewer system and its treatment system, which generates overflows, water pollution, and health problems. To control this problem, the design of a sanitary and storm sewer system and a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is proposed, guaranteeing the right to health and improving the quality of life. The research was carried out based on the collection of topographic and socioeconomic information through a population census that allowed for determining the current population and projecting it for a 20-year design period. The hydraulic sizing of the networks was performed through manual calculations in spreadsheets and their subsequent modeling and verification with the SewerGEMS software, ensuring compliance with the technical criteria and regulations in force in Ecuador. The design of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was based on pretreatment and primary treatment processes, considering the flow characteristics and wastewater quality in the area. The results obtained demonstrate the project's technical viability, which will contribute to improving the sanitary, environmental, and health conditions of the Guaguayme Baj neighborhood.
