Abstract

Abstract: This research addresses the fragmentation of the link between humans and the natural environment due to rapid urban growth, which has weakened the regenerative role of public space. In response to this problem, the overall objective is to redesign Simón Bolívar Park in the city of Loja using biophilic design principles to create a public space that fosters connection with nature and holistic well-being. The methodology employed consisted of a mixed-methods approach that integrated physical-spatial diagnoses and environmental measurements, followed by an evaluation of biophilic patterns to identify the site's habitability limitations. The results propose a comprehensive transformation of the area through resilient architectural solutions and the strategic strengthening of urban green infrastructure. It is concluded that this intervention transforms the park into a healing urban ecosystem that not only mitigates environmental risks but also revitalizes the physical and psychological health of citizens, contributing a sustainable and human-centered design model that restores the essential balance between urban life and the surrounding natural environment.
