Estilos de conducción y salud mental en conductores motorizados en el cantón Biblián, provincia del Cañar durante el año 2025

Abstract

Abstract: Driving styles, mental health and alcohol consumption in drivers are relevant topics. This study aimed to evaluate driving styles and mental health in motorized drivers in the Biblián canton, Cañar province in 2025. The methodology was quantitative, non-experimental and employed a descriptive cross-sectional design with a sample of 60 drivers. Data collection was carried out using an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire and the following instruments: MDSI, GHQ-28 and AUDIT. The results showed a higher incidence of adaptive driving styles (M = 3.84), with a predominance of the cautious driving style (M = 4.06) and distress reduction (M = 3.45); while in maladaptive styles (M = 1.78), the reckless style (M = 1.94) stood out. In mental health, social dysfunction prevailed (M = 4.83). In alcohol consumption, 80% reported abstinence or low risk drinking, and 16.7% exhibited a hazardous alcohol consumption pattern. In conclusion, drivers exhibit responsible driving behavior, good mental health, and a low risk of alcohol consumption.
