Abstract

Abstract: This investigation presents a proposal for the restoration of a historic house located in the historic center of Zaruma, in Ecuador. Rappresentative of the local traditional architecture, the building presents a traditional construction system based on its structure in wood, died in graticcio and clay and tetti in terracotta tegole. Over time, and because of the lack of maintenance, the vehicle has gradually deteriorated and has been modified inappropriately. The methodology of analysis adopts a descriptive and analytical application, which includes an architectural study of the current state and heritage value, without a normative analysis based on the line of guidance of the National Institute of Cultural Heritage (INPC). On the basis of this valutazione, there is a definite action of intervention, such as the consolidation, the rimozione of non-idone elements, the integration and the reintegration, applying the principle of minimum intervention, reversibilità and respect of the authenticity. The proposal introduces a new destination of use compatible with the site, through the creation of a museum of falegnameria and an artisanal market, with the objective of promoting immaterial cultural heritage and revitalizing the local economy. This application shows that the adaptive reuse functions as an effective strategy to guarantee the sustainability, active use and long-term conservation of the building heritage.
