Abstract

Abstract: This research develops an architectural intervention proposal for the San Sebastián Parish House, located in the historic center of the city of Loja, with the aim of recovering its symbolic, functional, and urban value within the ensemble formed by the church, the square, and its immediate surroundings. Based on a historical, typological, and pathological analysis of the building, the study identifies the transformations undergone over time, as well as the deterioration caused by partial abandonment and unplanned interventions. The research is supported by a site diagnosis, urban and social context analysis, photographic documentation, and data collection through surveys using the Kobo Collect tool, which allowed an understanding of the dynamics, facilities, and flows that characterize the area. As a result, an intervention is proposed that incorporates cultural and service-related uses compatible with the building’s character, promoting its reactivation and strengthening its relationship with the urban context while preserving its historical and community identity.
