Abstract

Abstract: Corn cultivation in Pindal dates back to the 1990s. This agricultural activity has become the main source of income and development for its inhabitants, but due to population growth and constant market demand, it has generated a series of social, economic, and environmental impacts, resulting in lower production volume per hectare cultivated. This research focuses specifically on the socioeconomic impact of corn cultivation in the rural community of Carmen de Papalango in the Pindal Parish, Pindal Canton, encompassing corn production in the year 2025. It considers environmental sustainability and socioeconomic effects. To this end, structured surveys were conducted with 20 people, given the small population of this rural community. Data was collected on their perceptions of corn production, its costs, and its profitability. This research suggests integrating new forms of sustainable practices to improve good agricultural practices and avoid dependence on a single crop and climatic factors.
