Abstract

Abstract: The city of Zaruma, located in the Zaruma Canton, El Oro Province, is distinguished by its rich heritage and unique architecture, which reflects a wealth of historical and cultural elements. It was recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site in 1990 by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ecuador. Zaruma represents a living testament to the region's identity and history, with buildings that capture the character of its mining and colonial past. Currently, buildings of heritage interest face serious problems associated with deterioration, inadequate maintenance, and the pressures of contemporary urban development. These conditions jeopardize the structural integrity of the buildings, as well as the cultural and architectural legacy they represent. This project seeks to develop an architectural rehabilitation proposal that harmonizes heritage conservation with current needs for habitability and sustainability. Through an interdisciplinary approach and detailed analysis, the aim is to contribute to the rescue and rehabilitation of heritage homes, generating a positive impact on the community and promoting the historical and cultural value of Zaruma.
