Abstract

Abstract: This thesis develops the technical design and financial evaluation of an FTTH fiber optic network with GPON technology to provide Internet service to the rural community of Pile, located in the Montecristi canton, with approximately 1,200 inhabitants. The study arose in response to the existing connectivity limitations in the area, characterized by unstable wireless links and saturated networks that do not guarantee service quality or continuity. The methodology design methodology included gathering information on current and future demand, included gathering information on current and future demand, analyzing the existing supply, and technically sizing the network based on criteria of capacity, scalability, and sustainability. The design contemplates a GPON architecture with an 8-port OLT (4 in initial use), an ODN network segmented into feeder, distribution, and dispersion, a maximum split ratio of 1:64, and an optical budget within the parameters recommended by the ITU-T. The network was designed to initially serve 93 subscribers, with the capacity to grow to approximately 200 users. From an economic standpoint, the project involves an initial investment (CAPEX) of approximately USD 24494,21 and an annual operating cost (OPEX) of USD 6630,00. The financial indicators obtained reflect economic viability, with a positive NPV, an IRR higher than the discount rate considered, and a payback period of less than two years. Likewise, different financing schemes were analyzed, showing that mixed models or those with community contributions improve profitability indicators.
