Estilos de conducción y salud mental en conductores motorizados de la ciudad de Chone provincia de Manabí durante el año 2025.

Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate driving styles, mental health, and alcohol consumption among motorized drivers in the city of Chone, Manabí Province, Ecuador, in 2025. A quantitative, non-experimental, descriptive, cross-sectional design was applied to a sample of 49 drivers. Data were collected using an ad hoc sociodemographic questionnaire, the Multidimensional Driving Style Inventory (MDSI), the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), and the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Results showed a slight predominance of maladaptive driving styles (M = 44.22) over adaptive styles (M = 42.00), with higher scores in reckless and distracted driving. Regarding mental health, anxiety insomnia (M = 4.14) and social dysfunction (M = 4.20) presented relatively higher scores, while overall levels of psychological distress remained low. Concerning alcohol use, 79.6% of participants showed a low-risk pattern, whereas 20.4% were classified in risk, harmful use, or probable dependence categories. In conclusion, the findings indicate the coexistence of maladaptive driving styles, generally low psychological distress, and a minority group with alcohol consumption patterns relevant to road safety.
