Estilos de conducción y salud mental en conductores motorizados del sector urbano en la ciudad de Loja-Ecuador durante el 2025

Abstract

Abstract: This study evaluated driving styles, mental health, and alcohol consumption among motorized drivers in the urban area of Loja, stemming from the problem of risky behaviors and psychological distress that can compromise road safety. The research was based on the need to identify these conditions to understand how these variables interact in a demanding operational context. The methodology employed the Multidimensional Driving Styles Inventory (MDSI), the GHQ-28 general health questionnaire, and the AUDIT test to obtain objective information on the variables of interest. The results showed a predominance of maladaptive driving styles, especially reckless driving. Regarding mental health, the highest mean scores were for anxiety and insomnia, and a low risk of alcohol consumption was observed, both of which affect driving performance. It is concluded that the evaluated group maintains behaviors favorable to road safety, although preventive measures need to be reinforced for drivers with styles and habits that compromise their performance.
