Los factores asociados al desgaste en cuidadores formales en centros geriátricos del norte de Quito, Ecuador, durante el año 2024

Abstract

Abstract: In the development of this document, research was conducted in geriatric centers located in the northern area of Quito during the year 2024. The general objective was to identify the factors related to professional wear and tear those that deteriorate the well-being of healthcare workers. This aim made it possible to address specific objectives, including the identification of workload, the prevalence of exhaustion, and the levels of burnout present among professionals. A scientific approach was adopted, and a series of validated instruments were applied, such as a sociodemographic questionnaire, an overload interview, the GHQ-12 questionnaire, the ProQOL V questionnaire, the Empathic Distress Scale, and the MBI inventory. These tools were administered to a group of 51 professionals. The results revealed a high prevalence of exhaustion due to emotional and physical overload. Additionally, it was found that professionals are affected by empathic distress resulting from their close interactions with patients. It is concluded that geriatric centers require targeted approaches and tools that promote the well-being and care of healthcare professionals.
