| Abstract: | Abstract: Motorized driving involves psychological factors that affect road safety; therefore, understanding driver behavior is essential for prevention. The present research aimed to assess driving styles and mental health in motorized drivers in the northern sector of the city of Quito, also considering their alcohol consumption pattern. A quantitative approach was used, with a cross-sectional and descriptive scope, involving a sample of 44 drivers. Data were collected through the MDSI, the GHQ-28, and the AUDIT. The results showed that adaptive styles predominated, with the cautious style being the highest, with a mean of 4.09; regarding mental health, the most affected dimension was social dysfunction, which reached a mean of 3.73; and concerning alcohol consumption, 93.2% of participants fell within the abstinence or low-risk category. It is concluded that drivers operate cautiously, maintain relatively preserved mental health whose most sensitive point is social dysfunction, and present a mostly non-problematic alcohol consumption pattern. |
| Description: | Resumen: La conducción motorizada articula factores psicológicos que inciden en la seguridad vial, por lo que comprender el comportamiento del conductor resulta fundamental para la prevención. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar los estilos de conducción y la salud mental en conductores motorizados del sector norte de la ciudad de Quito, considerando además su patrón de consumo de alcohol. Se empleó un enfoque cuantitativo, de alcance transversal y descriptivo, con una muestra de 44 conductores. Los datos se recolectaron mediante el MDSI, el GHQ-28 y el AUDIT. Los resultados evidenciaron que predominaron los estilos adaptativos, siendo el cauteloso el más alto, con una media de 4,09; en salud mental, la dimensión más afectada fue la disfunción social, que alcanzó una media de 3,73; y en consumo de alcohol, el 93,2 % de los participantes se ubicó en abstinencia o bajo riesgo. Se concluye que los conductores manejan de forma cautelosa, mantienen una salud mental relativamente preservada cuyo punto más sensible es la disfunción social, y presentan un consumo de alcohol mayoritariamente no problemático. |
