Abstract: This research analyzed the reasoning behind the first-instance judgment in case No. 05202-2020-01199 which concerned a claim for *alimentos congruos* (maintenance commensurate with social standing) by addressing the legal question of whether the decision met the constitutional and regulatory standards required by instruments such as the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador and the jurisprudence of the Constitutional Court. Accordingly, the study aimed to analyze the judgment's reasoning to determine its compliance with these constitutional and jurisprudential standards. The research adopted a qualitative, documentary, and descriptive approach, employing the analytical-legal method; the technique used was a documentary analysis of the judgment, grounded in legal argumentation theory, legal doctrine, and constitutional regulations. The results indicate that while the first-instance judgment did contain reasoning, its substantiation could have been more extensive regarding the assessment of evidence and the surrounding circumstances. The study concludes that the application of the sufficiency standard serves as a key parameter.es_ES
