Descripción socioeconómica del Cantón La Libertad de la Provincia de Santa Elena del Ecuador. Período 2010 2022

Abstract

Abstract: This research analyzes the socioeconomic profile of the La Libertad canton, Santa Elena province, Ecuador, during the period 2010 2022, seeking to provide an overview of the territory, characterize its productive structure, and identify the sectors that shape a local economic growth strategy. The research employs a descriptive and qualitative approach, using a deductive-analytical and comparative methodology that allows for the identification of different fluctuations and changes over time. Official sources of information, such as the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), the Central Bank of Ecuador (BCE), and the Territorial Development Plan (PDOT), were also used. The research reveals results showing how the canton experienced steady economic growth until the COVID-19 pandemic, primarily due to the tertiary sector, which accounts for approximately 63% of employment and 50.5% of the provincial reference value added. On the other hand, the secondary sector, although it has a lower labor participation (25%), is shown as the sector with the greatest strategic potential due to its contribution of 41% to the added value and its high productivity compared to the other sectors.
