| Abstract: | Abstract:This research examines the reasoning provided by judges of first instance in their rulings in Ecuador, focusing on criminal case No. 20331-2023-00122 from the Specialized Criminal Guarantees Tribunal for the Adjudication of Crimes Related to Corruption and Organized Crime, based in Quito. The primary objective is to analyze and evaluate the correctness and sufficiency of the reasoning in the trial-level judgment, based on its legal, factual, and argumentative grounds. The techniques employed include close reading, the EL SER method, argumentative mapping, and document review. The instruments used are the standard sufficiency-of-reasoning questionnaire, the correctness-of-reasoning questionnaire, and a legal grounds matrix. Based on this analysis, the study concludes that the judgment is sufficiently reasoned being correct, coherent, and legally well-founded and contains no defects that would warrant its judicial annulment. |
