| Abstract: | Abstract: This research analyzes the relationship between the academic preferences of law students and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by examining Judgment No. 1185-20-JP/21 of the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, which concerns the protection of the Aquepi River. The study aimed to demonstrate how competencies acquired during legal training enable the interpretation and application of the SDGs in resolving conflicts related to environmental protection and fundamental rights. The research employed a socio-legal approach, utilizing methods of documentary, exegetical, and systematic analysis as well as synthesis, grounded in doctrine, regulations, and both national and international case law. The results indicate that the judgment serves as a benchmark for safeguarding the rights of nature, the right to water, prior consultation, the right to a healthy environment, and legal certainty, highlighting the Constitutional Court's role in protecting these rights. Consequently, the study concludes that jurisprudential analysis strengthens professional training, fosters a commitment to sustainable development, and encourages a legal practice oriented toward protecting the public interest. |
