Abstract: Abstract:This research addresses the reasoning provided in judgments issued by first-instance judges in Ecuador, through a legal analysis of a ruling delivered by the Judicial Unit for Family, Women, Children, and Adolescents in the Milagro canton. The primary objective of this study was to determine whether the judicial decision meets the standards for sufficient and correct reasoning as required by legal doctrine and the country s regulatory framework. The research was conducted in Ecuador, focusing on a first-instance judgment related to a divorce case based on specific legal grounds. A qualitative approach was adopted, employing both an analytical-legal method and a documentary method. Techniques used included content analysis and document review, while the instruments consisted of legal analysis forms and matrices for evaluating the reasoning provided. The results indicate that the judgment formally complies with the duty to provide reasoning; however, it exhibits deficiencies regarding the assessment of evidence and the articulation of the underlying legal reasoning. In conclusion, while the judgment does not warrant annulment due to a lack of reasoning, it requires argumentative refinements at the appellate level to strengthen the effective judicial protection of rights.
