English language students and their motivation to learn the language

Abstract

This study has been conducted to analyze the perceptions that students have about their motivation to learn the English language in the classroom in relation to activities, strategies, teaching methods and teacher roles that play an important role in the process Of teaching-learning, therefore, this study wants to determine how these factors can influence students' English language learning. The participants for this study were twenty students of five English classes with a total of one hundred students in three public schools in the city of El Carmen- Ecuador. To carry out this research it was necessary to use several scientific and bibliographic methods and instruments which include observation sheet and questionnaires. The quantitative and qualitative methods were used for the interpretation of the data obtained around the questionnaires applied to the students. The results of this study suggest that the motivation students feel is essential to learning English, and that it is related to the use of teacher activities, strategies, methods and attitudes within the classroom for successful learning.
