Abstract: For this research is applied a spatial analysis in order to determine the variables that affect to Ecuadorian households’ poverty and estimate the number of poor people in regional, rural and urban level in 2012; all this through geographically disaggregated poverty rates at the parish level, in which was considered the functional form to model the relationship between the characteristics of households and its members; and, their welfare level represented by per capita expenditure, through the linear equation of spending; additionally it was performed the calculation of indicators of incidence, gap and severity of poverty, in order to reinforce the results, which indicate that the poorest parishes are from the rural zone Cumbaya and urban zone Puerto Villamil belonging to planning zones 2 and 5 respectively. The investigation is completed with the calculation of the Foster, Greer and Thorbecke (FGT) index demonstrating that the disparity of poverty is higher in rural areas than urban areas of Ecuador.
