Abstract: The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors that influence the English language teaching- learning process in ESL/EFL classrooms through students’ data collected from ESL teachers. This data is based on teachers’ and students’ questionnaires as well as on classroom observations, note taking and teachers’ interviews that were collected during the investigation. This research took place in NY where most of the participants were students between eleven to seventeen years old and ESL teachers and their classrooms; these participants attend middle school and high school. The town where the investigation took place counts with a 41.40% of Spanish speaking immigrants, most of the participants are from Ecuador. Based on the statistics of this investigation, where quantitative method was applied, this research had reached to the conclusion that factors such as number of students per class, classroom resources, students’ academic level, lesson plan, group-work activities, as well as the use of English language in ESL classrooms widely influences to the improvement of the quality in the acquisition of English as a second language
Description: El objetivo de este estudio es analizar los factores que influyen en el proceso de enseñanza–aprendizaje del idioma inglés en los salones de ESL/EFL a través de la recopilación de datos de estudiantes y maestros de inglés como segunda lengua. Esta información está basada en cuestionarios de estudiantes y maestros así como las observaciones en las salas de clases, anotaciones, y entrevistas a los maestros que fueron recopilados durante la investigación. Este estudio tuvo lugar en Nueva York donde la mayoría de los participantes fueron estudiantes entre los once y diecisiete años de edad y maestros de ESL y sus clases; estos participantes asisten a los colegios de ciclo básico y diversificado. La ciudad donde fue realizada la investigación cuenta con un 41.40% de inmigrantes de habla hispana, la mayoría de los participantes de Ecuador. Basado en los resultados estadísticos de esta investigación, donde se aplicó el método cuantitativo, se ha llegado a la conclusión de que factores como el número de estudiantes por clase, material de enseñanza, nivel académico de los estudiantes, plan de estudio, actividades en grupos, así como el uso de la lengua inglesa en los salones de ESL han influenciado grandemente para mejorar la calidad de enseñanza en la adquisición del Inglés como un segundo lenguaje
