Abstract

Abstract: In 2013, the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus in Ecuador was 7% according to WHO data. The objective of the present study was to assess whether pharmaceutical care carried out through individualized monitoring and health education programs improves the degree of adherence to treatment in older adult patients with type I and II diabetes mellitus, treated at the Isidro Ayora General Hospital. of Loja in the outpatient consultation area in the period April-September 2015. The indirect methods used belonged to the Morisky-Green and Batalla Tests to measure the degree of compliance of the patients obtaining a Chi-square of 1.852, while for The glycosylated hemoglobin assessment obtained a Student's t of 2.26 with a significance level of p=0.03; which indicates that the levels of glycated hemoglobin are significant with mean values ​​of 8.03% before and 7.23% at the end of the pharmaceutical program. The training provided during the six-month period allowed for greater adherence to pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment.
