| Abstract: | This research was carried out in the cantons of Palanda and Chinchipe belonging to the Ecuadorian. Amazonian province of Zamora Chinchipe. The results of the comparisons between coffee farmers associated with ACRIM or APECAP versus the independent coffee growers of both cantons are shown. The properties of small coffee producers were characterized and the sustainability of their farms was calculated through the use of indicators based on the methodology by Sarandón and Flores (2009). The field information was collected to calculate the economic, ecological and social dimensions. The results show that the coffee growers' economy is deficient due to the low yield of coffee, low sales income and diversified products from the farm. They present deficiencies of basic services and in the productive system, in spite of this the peasants interviewed do not wish to abandon their agricultural and coffee activity |
| Description: | Esta investigación se llevó cabo en los cantones de Palanda y Chinchipe, pertenecientes a la provincia amazónica ecuatoriana de Zamora Chinchipe. Se muestran los resultados de las comparaciones entre cafetaleros asociados a ACRIM o APECAP versus los cafetaleros independientes de ambos cantones. Se caracterizó los predios de pequeños productores cafetaleros y se calcula la sustentabilidad de sus fincas, mediante el uso de indicadores basados en la metodología de Sarandón y Flores (2009). La información de campo se recolecto para calcular las dimensiones económica, ecológica y social. Los resultados muestran que la economía de los caficultores es deficiente debido al bajo rendimiento del café, bajos ingresos por su venta y la de productos diversificados de la finca. Presentan carencias de servicios básicos y en el sistema productiva, a pesar de esto los campesinos entrevistados no desean abandonar su actividad agrícola y cafetalera |
