The main goal of the present research work is to offer an alternative design method for constructive approach of single-family dwelling buildings: unreinforced brick masonry effectively meets the structural requirements of this small buildings. It is also important to explore the benefits of computerized analysis, specifically finite elements analysis (FEA) as a faster a cheaper option to carry on test that would be consume a lot more time and resources if carried on by traditional methods The first chapter includes an overview of the history, features, constructive and aesthetic possibilities that the hand-crafted brick found in Loja has to offer. The second chapters define the FEA, its features and superiority as an analysis tool, also examines the modeling methods that can be applied, overwathcing the strengths and weaknesses of each one. Finally, the macro-modeling method is applied to construct a numerical model of an unreinforced masonry structure that fits the local conditions. The model is then tested under normal external loads, and finally under unexpected events (earthquakes).es_ES
