Students’ perceptions on their listening comprehension difficulties in EFL classrooms

Abstract

The present study exposes the main factors that are immersed in the learning of a second language. How students perceive difficulties in their listening comprehension in English as a foreign language classes: An Ecuadorian case is the subject to be investigated. The purpose is to find the problems that students perceive as a barrier to understanding what they hear in English, research is carried out by reviewing three factors; The person who listens, the person who speaks, and the content to be listened to, since all of these directly influence the process. Interviews and surveys collected information about students' perceptions of second language learning. The results or contrasted data of teachers and students provide evidence of the good level of understanding of English as a second language both recorded and spoken by their teachers, on the other hand, the lack of interest on the part of students in some subjects or situations leads Students to not understand what they hear and thus impair their academic performance.
