Descripción : | This research was conducted to determine and compare the type of supplementary material in EFL classes in a public and a private high school. The private high school is bilingual and the students receive twenty hours of English classes weekly. The students of the public high school receive four hours of English classes per week. The students were from the 8th, 9th and 10th grades and their ages were from 11 to 15 years old. The research combines the quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative method was used to compare the frequency of use of supplementary materials among public and private high schools. The qualitative method was used to get descriptions of class observations. In addition, surveys were given to the teachers and students to get information about their perceptions of the materials used in classes. This research determined that the most common type of supporting materials used in public high school was the whiteboard; this material was used in almost all the observed classes. On the other hand, teachers of the private high school used different types of materials. |
