Levantamiento micropaleontológico y estratigráfico de la quebrada Yamana, Cantón Paltas

Abstract

Abstract: The Yamana parish is located in the center of the Paltas canton in the Province of Loja, on land made up of U-type valleys, its relief being modeled by the effects of climatic agents, which have weathered the sector both physically and chemically. The Yamana basin is made up of tertiary deposits, which are under failed pressures, this being evident in the highest part, where the river hasthe greatest erosive domain. The sub-basin of Río Playas represents the upper sedimentary deposits of the Alamor-Lancones basin of Cretaceous age, at the south of Ecuador.The present study identifies the different types of microfossils that makeallowto improve the paleoenvironmentalknowledge of the area, through the recognition and analysis of itsmicrofossil potential. The collection of the samples goes from the Yamana parish to the Río Playas bridge. A total tensamples were collected.Seven samples with fossil remains (with the presence of foraminifera, shell fragments and unidentifiable remains) were studied, which were identified through a catalog of microfossils that helped to interpret and determine the chronostratigraphic age of the microorganisms.
