| Abstract: | Abstract: This studyaimed to enhance high school students speaking skills through the using fables in the EFL classroom. This investigation used a mixed-method approach to analyze data and describe the study's results regarding the use of fables during eight lessons to enhance vocabulary, grammar structure, and pronunciation, which are part of fluency and accuracy speaking performance. The instruments used to gather the data were: the pre and post-tests, observation sheets, and surveys that were applied to 27 students from thefirst year of high school at a public institution in Quilanga, Loja Province in Ecuador, who were enrolled in the academic year 2022. The results demonstrated that the EFL students improved their speaking skills. In conclusion, the use of the fables was effective and significant because, in that way, students improve their speaking skills by developing their sub-skills in vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation which made their speaking performance more accurate and fluent. |
| Description: | Resumen: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo mejorar las habilidades orales de los estudiantes de secundaria a través del uso de fábulas en el aula de inglés como lengua extranjera. Esta investigación utilizó un enfoque de método mixto para analizar datos y describir los resultados del estudio con respecto al uso de fábulas durante ocho lecciones para mejorar: vocabulario, estructura gramatical y pronunciación, que son parte de la fluidez y la precisión en el desempeño del habla. Los instrumentos utilizados para la recolección de datos fueron: el pre y post test, fichas de observación y encuestas cuales fueron aplicados a 27 estudiantes del primer año de secundaria de una institución pública de Quilanga, Provincia de Loja en Ecuador, que estaban matriculados en el año académico 2022. Los resultados demostraron que los estudiantes de EFL mejoraron sus habilidades para hablar. En conclusión, el uso de las fábulas fue efectivo y significativo porque, de esa manera, los estudiantes mejoran sus habilidades orales al desarrollar sus sub-destrezas en vocabulario, gramática y pronunciación, lo que hizo que su desempeño oral sea más preciso y fluido. |
