The use of Collaborative Learning to enhance students English speaking achievement.

Abstract

Abstract: This research presents the results of the use of the collaborative elements for the improvement of speaking skills in the English language, in a public senior high school in Zumbi; the objective of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of collaborative learning activities to enhance students English-speaking achievement. A mixed method with a quantitative and qualitative approach was applied for this study, it also included a pre and a post-test with a scale rubric, and finally, a survey to know both teachers and students perceptions was considered. The sample for this research were 30 students from two courses, the first 15 students were the control group and the other 15 students as the experimental group. The results evidenced the effectiveness of collaborative elements' in the classroom, students of the experimental group showed a progress in the post-test evaluation. The majority of students confirmed that the elements proposed in the collaborative learning were useful for learning the language, especially for speaking skills development. In addition, teacher agreed that collaborative elements helped students to develop and progress significantly their learning process.
