Factors that influence high school students' English oral communication skills in Ecuadorian face-to-face learning environments

Abstract

Abstract:The purpose of this research is to determine the linguistic and emotional factors that influence the oral communication skills in English of high school students in face-to-face learning environments. The applied methodology is a mixed method with qualitative and quantitative approaches using research instruments such as student questionnaire applied to 42 people, 1 teacher questionnaire applied to the teacher in charge, semi-structured interview conducted with 5 random students, and a record of observation for the observation of the speech class, all these tools are applied in the same order described above. The participants of this research They are 1st BGU secondary students with a B2 level of English from a private school in the Quito city. The results obtained in this study show that the factors emotional such as being afraid of making mistakes, worrying about not being understood when speak English and worry about using the grammar correctly present more challenges and influence to a greater extent the oral communication skills of students. that linguistic factors in general.
