La incidencia del abandono familiar en la autoestima de los adultos mayores de un centro gerontológico

Abstract

Abstract: The main objective of this study entitled "The incidence of family abandonment in the self esteem of the elderly in a gerontological center" was to determine the causes that affect the self-esteem of the elderly as a result of family abandonment in a gerontological center in Loja. For this, the methodology contemplated the use of the quantitative approach, descriptive level and experimental research, where from a sociodemographic survey, and the Rosenberg scale directed to a sample group of 25 older adults from a gerontological center in the city of Loja, it was determined that this group is exposed to situations of abandonment, where their socioeconomic condition constitutes a negative factor for their quality of life, however, they are not conditions that broadly influence their mental health. In this way, it is concluded that family abandonment affects the self-esteem of the adult, but not in a significant way, however, the approach of proposals aimed at strengthening family ties is suggested, where the home is understood to be the space where the individual must complete its life cycle.
