Especialización y convergencia de las actividades manufactureras de Ecuador

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this research is to define the level of economic specialization and convergence that the manufacturing sector has in the different provinces of Ecuador during the period 2012-2020. For this, the analysis of Sigma convergence and the index of economic specialization. Among the main results, the convergence analysis shows that the growth rates of the sector manufacturing at the provincial level present a divergent trend. On the other hand, in the provinces of Carchi, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo, Imbabura and Los Ríos the specialization initial manufacturing sector was strengthened. In Cañar, Esmeraldas, Manabí and Santa Elena The initial specialization of the manufacturing sector was attenuated and in the case of the provinces of Bolívar, Guayas, Loja, Zamora Chinchipe, Galapagos, Orellana and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas there was a process of de-specialization of manufacturing. The process of reinforcing specialization occurred in sectors that process products for exports and de-specialization in manufacturing activities whose presence has been reducing.
