Expansión urbana y suelo productivo en el marco de la sostenibilidad. Parroquia Malacatos, 1990-2020

Abstract

Abstract: Among the problems that land use planning seeks to solve are land use conflicts, degradation of ecosystems, among others, which have consequences in the dysfunctional relationship between society and nature. In this context, the present study focused on "Urban expansion and productive land in the framework of sustainability. Parroquia Malacatos; 1990- 2020" and its main objective was to project sustainable territories from the contribution of historical and prospective analysis of land use change for the purpose of sustainable territorial planning. The methodology used was documentary and experimental-analytical using Geographic Information Systems for the observation and interpretation of satellite images, which were finally analysed and projected into the future within the framework of sustainable development. The study indicated that the urban expansion of the Malacatos parish increased by 0.94% on productive land; but, at the same time, herbaceous vegetation also grew by 6.44%. In the optimal future model, it was determined that the parish of Malacatos should grow in an orderly manner on areas such as agro-ecological class VIII, as this class is inappropriate for agricultural purposes.
