Abstract: | Abstract: The current study Awareness of Text Structure to Enhance Academic Reading, tends to determine how students knowledge of text structure could influence learners reading skills. To achieve this goal, two educational institutions in the city of Loja-Ecuador were chosen for the development of the study. The participants were 20 students from a private school constituted the experimental group; 20 students from a public school became the control. The age of the students in both groups ranged from 17 to 19 years old, boys and girls respectively. For the development of the research, it was applied a mixed method study, and for the collection of data, 4 instruments were designed: survey, interview, pre-test, and post test. For the experimental group, 3 interventions were applied. The researcher provided information about academic texts to determine if this knowledge was useful to improve learners reading skills, and also it was evaluated through a Post-test. Finally, as a result of the intervention and analysis of data collected, it was concluded that the knowledge of the structure of academic texts helped learners to improve their reading skills. |
Description: | Resumen: La lectura académica tiende a determinar cómo el conocimiento de la estructura del texto de los estudiantes podría influir en las habilidades de lectura; para lograr este objetivo se escogieron dos instituciones educativas de la ciudad de Loja-Ecuador para el desarrollo del estudio. Los participantes fueron 20 estudiantes de un colegio privado constituyeron el grupo experimental; y 20 alumnos de una escuela pública pasaron a ser el control; la edad de los estudiantes de ambos grupos osciló entre 17 y 19 años, jóvenes y señoritas respectivamente. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se aplicó un estudio de método mixto, para la recolección de datos se diseñaron 4 instrumentos: encuesta, entrevista, pre-test y post-test. Para el grupo experimental se aplicaron 3 intervenciones. El investigador proporcionó información sobre textos académicos y determino su utilidad a través de un post-test. Finalmente, como resultado de la intervención y análisis de los datos recopilados, se concluyó que el conocimiento de la estructura de los textos académicos ayudó a los educandos a mejorar sus habilidades lectoras. |
