| Abstract: | Abstract: The objective of this study was to examine the impact of graphic organizers on the reading skills of EFL students. The research was conducted in an educational institution in the city of Loja and employed a mixed approach with quantitative and qualitative methods. The sample consisted of 20 third-year high school students and an English teacher. The technique used was a survey for the students and one for the teacher, as well as a pre-test and a post-test. During the research, eight activities were proposed that incorporated the use of the hamburger graphic organizer and WH questions. The strategies employed were the formulation of questions and the identification of the main idea and summary. The results revealed that the students presented difficulties in comprehending English texts, due to lack of vocabulary and grammatical difficulties. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that graphic organizers improve students' reading proficiency, specifically in the identification of main and supporting ideas, text summary, and organization of ideas. |
| Description: | Resumen: El objetivo de este estudio fue examinar el impacto de los organizadores gráficos en las habilidades de lectura de los estudiantes de EFL. La investigación se realizó en una institución educativa de la ciudad de Loja y empleó un enfoque mixto con métodos cuantitativos y cualitativos. La muestra estuvo conformada por 20 estudiantes de tercer año de bachillerato y un profesor de inglés. La técnica utilizada fue una encuesta para los estudiantes y otra para el profesor, así como un pre-test y un post-test. Durante la investigación se propusieron ocho actividades que incorporaban el uso del organizador gráfico hamburguesa y las preguntas WH. Las estrategias empleadas fueron la formulación de preguntas y la identificación de la idea principal y el resumen. Los resultados revelaron que los alumnos presentaron dificultades en la comprensión de textos en inglés, debido a la falta de vocabulario y a dificultades gramaticales. En conclusión, este estudio demuestra que los organizadores gráficos mejoran la competencia lectora de los alumnos, concretamente en la identificación de las ideas principales y de apoyo, el resumen del texto y la organización de las ideas. |
