Abstract

Abstract: The present investigation is aimed at the correlation that exists between low levels of reading comprehension and low academic performance in third year students High school at the 18 de Noviembre school in the Sozoranga canton, school year 2022-2023. In In this sense, the main objective of the research is to establish the relationship that exists between reading comprehension and academic performance in students. This The research is based on quantitative and qualitative methods that allowed us to obtain the fundamental information to determine the level of reading comprehension. For this, it was used the technique of direct observation; and as research instruments an interview and a survey, for the latter a questionnaire of 10 open questions was developed that was applied to 42 students and an interview with the Language and Literature teacher. Finally, The results show that low levels of reading comprehension effectively affect to school achievement, specifically in Mathematics, Language, History and Studies Social. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers establish reading strategies through motivation to read.
