Abstract: | Abstract: This study seeks to understand the factors that affect oral communication skills in English by high school students in face-to-face mode in Ecuador. were investigated two factors: the linguistic and the emotional. The participants were students and teachers from an urban secondary school. Questionnaires were used in this research, interviews and observation lists as instruments to collect data. The results showed that linguistic and emotional barriers are important for the development of fluency in the language, although the emotional factor seems to be more influential than the linguistic one. The results of this study could be useful for educators, policy makers education and other stakeholders to develop more effective strategies and interventions to improve students' English oral communication skills. With more effective strategies and actions, it is expected that competition can be improved communicative and linguistic skills of students in secondary schools in Ecuador. |
Description: | Resumen: Este estudio busca entender los factores que afectan las habilidades de comunicación oral en inglés de estudiantes de secundaria em modalidad presencial en Ecuador. Se investigaron dos factores: el lingüístico y el emocional. Los participantes fueron estudiantes y profesores de una escuela secundaria urbana. Em la presente investigación se utilizaron cuestionarios, entrevistas y listas de observación como instrumentos para recopilar datos. Los resultados mostraron que las barreras lingüísticas y emocionales son importantes para el desarrollo de la fluidez en el idioma, aunque el factor emocional parece ser más influyente que el lingüístico. Los resultados de este estudio podrían ser útiles para educadores, responsables de la política educativa y otras partes interesadas a desarrollar estrategias e intervenciones más eficaces para mejorar las capacidades de comunicación oral en inglés de los estudiantes. Con estrategias y acciones más efectivas, se espera que se pueda mejorar la competencia comunicativa y lingüística de los estudiantes en las escuelas secundarias de Ecuador. |
