| Abstract: | Abstract: The objective of this thesis is to examine the environmental impact of tourism in South America during the period 1995-2020, by implementing the Kuznets curve to see if it aligns with it. For this, the variables used were tourism revenue, forest area in square meters, and GDP per capita in constant dollars. This research was conducted using a panel model for the estimation. Based on the results, it was determined that for the case of South America, this relationship does not hold true, as higher tourism revenue translates into a significant loss of natural resources. Latin America has tourism as one of its main economic activities, but the idea of sustainable and responsible tourism should be considered, as not only economic stability is needed but also a healthy environment. |
| Description: | Resumen: El objetivo de esta tesis es probar el impacto ambiental que tiene el turismo en Sudamérica en el período 1995-2020, implementando la curva de Kuznets viendo si esto se ajusta a las misma, para esto se usó la variable de los gastos de del turismo, tasa de deforestación, el crecimiento poblacional y el PIB per cápita en dólares constantes. Esta investigación se realizó mediante un modelo de panel para realizar la estimación, en base a los resultados se pudo determinar que para el caso de Sudamérica no se cumple dicha relación debido a que un mayor ingreso de turismo se traduce a una perdida significativa de los recursos naturales, Latino América tiene como una de sus principales actividades económicas el turismo, pero se deberá plantear la idea de un turismo sostenible y responsable ya que no solo se necesita de una estabilidad económica sino también de un ambiente sano. |
