| Abstract: | Abstract: This study explores the use of authentic material through WhatsApp to enhance EFL students' listening skills outside of the classroom. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of authentic WhatsApp material in teaching EFL learners listening skills. Students' perceptions and the potential advantages and disadvantages of integrating WhatsApp into English teaching outside of the classroom are analysed to achieve this. A sample of 12 English as a foreign language students seven women and five men and a teacher in the province of El Oro were selected for the study. A mixed method was used, combining quantitative and qualitative data. The evidence was collected through instruments, including questionnaires for students and teachers, interview questions, and observation sheets. These techniques involved conducting surveys, interviewing teachers, and making observations. The findings revealed that students who received their information through WhatsApp significantly improved their listening skills. This improvement was attributed to the material's authenticity and regular exposure. |
| Description: | Resumen: El presente estudio tiene como propósito investigar la utilización de material auténtico a través de la plataforma WhatsApp con el fin de potenciar las habilidades de comprensión auditiva en estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera en un entorno extracurricular. Se pretende evaluar la efectividad del material auténtico de WhatsApp en el desarrollo de las habilidades auditivas en este grupo de estudiantes. En este sentido, se examinan las percepciones de los estudiantes, así como las posibles ventajas y desventajas de la integración de WhatsApp en la enseñanza del inglés fuera del aula. La muestra seleccionada para este estudio consistió en 12 estudiantes de inglés como lengua extranjera (siete mujeres y cinco hombres) y un docente de la provincia de El Oro. Se empleó un enfoque metodológico mixto que combinó la recolección de datos cuantitativos y cualitativos. La evidencia fue recolectada mediante diversos instrumentos, tales como cuestionarios dirigidos a estudiantes y profesores, preguntas de entrevistas y hojas de observación. Estas técnicas involucraron la aplicación de encuestas, entrevistas con docentes y observaciones. Según los resultados obtenidos, se observó que los estudiantes que fueron expuestos a información a través de WhatsApp experimentaron un notable avance en sus habilidades de escucha. Este progreso fue atribuido a la autenticidad del material y a su exposición constante. |
