Using Edpuzzle as a resource for teachers to make EFL learners improve their listening skills

Abstract

Abstract: This study explored the use of Edpuzzle to improve EFL learners' listening comprehension and their perceptions of the tool. The study was conducted with 29 first-year high school students in Loja, Ecuador, the research employed a mixed-methods approach. Data collection was carried out in a holistic manner, covering both quantitative and qualitative aspects. For quantitative data, pre- and post-tests and a perception survey were used. For qualitative data, these were obtained through detailed classroom observations. The results showed a significant improvement in listening scores after using Edpuzzle, with a higher mean and lower deviation in the post-test. Qualitative results indicated that Edpuzzle increased motivation, engagement and interactivity, creating a dynamic learning experience. The study concluded that Edpuzzle significantly improved students' listening comprehension skills, as higher scores and lower deviation were obtained in the post-test compared to the pre-test. Clearly suggesting that Edpuzzle is an effective tool for improving listening comprehension.
