Situación actual de la atención en cuidados paliativos en instituciones de salud de la ciudad de Cuenca y Loja durante el período agosto 2014 – diciembre 2014.

Abstract

To analyze the current situation of care in palliative care in institutions of the city of Cuenca and Loja through instruments such as surveys and observation sheets describe the institutions that provide care in palliative care and characterize palliative patients treated in these health institutions, establish the form of care in palliative care providing institutions in the cities of Cuenca and Loja and identify Higher Education institutions containing within their curricula training in palliative care. It is a quantitative, retrospective, descriptive cross-sectional study involving 76 patients treated at institutions that provide palliative care in Cuenca and Loja It was found that there is an institute that provides palliative care in Cuenca and Loja two institutions. In Cuenca he studied 14 patients with different diagnoses of advanced disease and / or recorded during August to December 2014, of which 72% (10 patients) were females and 28% (4 patients) were male terminal. The type of care in palliative care is diverse: inpatient, outpatient, and home. It was also possible to identify in the Institutions of Higher Education training in palliative care is given at the undergraduate level in an institution. There are 3 institutions providing palliative care in Cuenca and Loja. The type of care is outpatient, hospital, home visits, and hospice, only one Instiución of Higher Education teaches palliative care within their curriculum.
