Analysis of EFL teachers skills, attitudes and use regarding ICT in Ecuadorian private high schools

Abstract

Abstract:The study Analysis of EFL teachers skills, attitudes, and use regarding ICT in Ecuadorian private high schools, pursuits to determine teachers ICT skillfulness, the frequency in which they apply ICT, and attitudes towards using ICT inside classrooms. A mixed method was applied using qualitative and quantitate approaches. Surveys and interviews were conducted in a private high school in the area of Samborondón, in the coast of Ecuador to research about these three aspects. The sample consisted of ten EFL teacher, from which six were personally interviewed. Data was tabulated in three different charts and analyzed. The findings depicted that most teachers believed to have enough knowledge to include assorted ICT skills in their teaching practice; on the other hand, it showed that they only used a limited selection of them inside the classroom on a daily basis. Teachers revealed positive attitudes towards ICT and showed interest in learning more about them. Furthermore they made it clear that variables such as equipment and training are necessary for a successful implementation of ICT in EFL teaching.
