Evaluation of an English Language program to identify the Elements of the Curriculum. A case study of a Public High School in Ecuador

Abstract:In Ecuador learning English has become important not only as a subject in schools but as well as a practical language since it has been chosen by foreign people to make life. For this reason, schools concerned to provide the best education have implemented the new English curriculum to achieve the desired results in a program. This research study focuses on the evaluation of an English language program to identify the elements of the curriculum. A case study of a public high school in Cuenca. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to gather information, the participants were 5 teachers from a different level of English teaching and 5 students from the second year of bachillerato. After analyzing the information gathered, it was concluded that to design an effective curriculum, it is essential to consider the reality of the institution to achieve its objectives, considering what are students needs and the institution must provide teachers the facilities, materials, and effective teaching environment from which students will benefit to learn a foreign language since most of them do not have the opportunity to take extra English classes.
