Analysis of EFL teachers skills, attitudes, and use regarding ICT in Ecuadorian public high schools

Abstract

Abstract: This research was conducted with the purpose to analyze teachers skills, attitudes, and frequency of ICT use in public high schools in Ecuador. The sample chosen was ten EFL teachers at public high schools in Quito, Ecuador. The method used for quantitative and qualitative approaches is known as a mixed method research design. The instrument employed to collect quantitative and statistical data was a questionnaire, divided in three sections, one for each variable: skills, attitude and frequency of ICT use. The qualitative approach used as instrument an interview, it was constructed by ten open ended questions, in order to find out specific information for supporting the results found through the surveys. The data collected was analyzed using three Likert scale tables, one for every section of the survey, with different parameters for each table, in order to measure teachers answers in the surveys. The results showed that teachers have good skills to use traditional and modern ICT resources. Besides, the findings demonstrated that teachers have positive attitudes to use technology in EFL classes. The poor technological infrastructure is the factor that prevents the use of ICT.
