Evaluation of an english language program to identify the elements of a curriculum: A case study of a private high school in Ecuador

Abstract:This research work arises from the need of teachers in a private institution in the city of Quito to improve teaching of the English language. The main objective of this work is to analyze the needs and evaluate the efficacy and success of an English Language Program focused on the appreciation and perceptions of educators and learners. The participants chosen was a group of five 17-year-old high school seniors and five English Teachers. The method that was applied in this work was the mixed method approach. The instruments to collect data about needs analysis, situational analysis, environmental analysis, conditions for effective teaching were four different questionnaires. The last administered questionnaire was about the principles, types and tasks of assessment that educators use. The results were that the English level of students is quite acceptable, but teachers ignore many of learners needs, the communication between the institution authorities and the teachers must improve as well as the teachers training. The principal conclusion was that the curriculum has the support of the institution, thus the success of the Program may be guaranteed.
