The implementation of padlet to improve learners speaking skills in high schools.

Abstract

Abstract:The purpose of the present study is to apply Padlet as a digital tool to improve students speaking skills. The participants of this study were ten students from the 2nd grade of Bachillerato of a public high school in Loja city. This study applied a mixed-method to gather quantitative and qualitative data, using five instruments in total. At the beginning of this study, a pre-test with six questions was administered to evaluate the students' speaking proficiency acquired from their previous English classes. During the eight lessons planned for this study, data was collected from a monitor sheet to evaluate students speaking skills, and an observation sheet to monitor their progress. At the end of these lessons, a post-test was applied to evaluate the students speaking improvement. In addition, students were required to answer a survey which contained nine questions to know their perceptions about the implementation of Padlet to improve their speaking skills. As a result of this study, it was possible to determine that Padlet had a positive effect on students speaking skills improvement, especially on fluency and intonation.
