| Abstract: | Abstract: The objective of this bibliographic review is identifying the barriers that limit the development of palliative care, worldwide. Including palliative care in special situations (prisoners and homeless people). The search was made in the databases, Medline, Google Scholar, UpToDate, ClinicalKey and LILACS of bibliography carried out between 2010 and 2020. The following barriers were identified: 1) The association of palliative care with death, 2) Lack of PC education, both in physicians and in the population, 3) Patient economics, 4) Limited access and knowledge of opioids, 5) Emotional impact of PCs, 6) Lack of health policies, 7) Lack of infrastructure , 8) Inadequate patients selection and late reference to PC. |
| Description: | Resumen: El objetivo de esta revisión bibliográfica es identificar las barreras que limitan el desarrollo de los cuidados paliativos, a nivel mundial, incluyendo la atención paliativa en situaciones especiales (prisioneros y personas sin hogar). Se realizó una búsqueda en las bases de datos, Medline, Google Scholar, UptoDate, ClinicalKey y LILACS de bibliografía publicada entre 2010 y 2020. Se identificó las siguientes barreras: 1) La asociación de los cuidados paliativos con la muerte, 2) Falta de educación sobre CP, tanto en médicos como en la población, 3) Economía de los pacientes, 4) Limitado acceso y conocimiento de opioides, 5) Repercusión emocional de los CP, 6) Falta de políticas sanitarias que incluyan a los cuidados paliativos, 7) Falta de infraestructura, 8) Inadecuada selección de pacientes y referencia tardía a CP. |
