Realidad de los cuidados paliativos y las barreras para su desarrollo

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this bibliographic review is identifying the barriers that limit the development of palliative care, worldwide. Including palliative care in special situations (prisoners and homeless people). The search was made in the databases, Medline, Google Scholar, UpToDate, ClinicalKey and LILACS of bibliography carried out between 2010 and 2020. The following barriers were identified: 1) The association of palliative care with death, 2) Lack of PC education, both in physicians and in the population, 3) Patient economics, 4) Limited access and knowledge of opioids, 5) Emotional impact of PCs, 6) Lack of health policies, 7) Lack of infrastructure , 8) Inadequate patients selection and late reference to PC.
