Influencia del movimiento animalista en el ámbito social y jurídico en Loja durante 2020

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this article is to explain the influence that the animal movement has had on local public policies in the city of Loja, during the year 2020. The methodology used is qualitative and is combined with two techniques to study the animalist movements in the city of Loja; the first one is the interview and the second one is the archival analysis. The theoretical framework is composed of the sociology of collective action applied to animal movements, a brief historical review of animal activism in Ecuador and its influence on local animal activism. Additionally, this research is complemented with the socio-legal study of the case called "Caja de gas".This research therefore allows us to understand the influence of animal activism in the locality, which leads to the conclusion that local animal activism is mostly abolitionist, with a biocentric ideology and that its actions are influenced by transnational networks and that around conflictive social issues aimed at the protection of animals, especially canines.
